Bill Monaghan has been involved in music ministry as a singer and
piano/guitar player since his high school days at Archbishop Wood, in his
home parish of St. Vincent DePaul, and at the University of Scranton.
Upon graduating Scranton in 1992, Ann Menna offered Bill the opportunity to
develop music ministry for the Teen Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in
Southampton, PA. Bill asked, “Can we have piano and guitar, and drums, and singers, and trumpets
and flutes?” Ann said yes, and Bill was hooked.
From that first position, Bill has helped numerous parishes develop music
ministry for teens, children, families, and young adults, in the form of
worship music for Mass, praise and worship, sacramental and class retreats,
and more. Bill has been an invited presenter on many music ministry education
topics at convocations, workshops, and missions. Many of Bill’s music lesson
students furthered their musical experiences by participating in music ministry
events.
From this ministry, Bill has composed original settings for more than
115 Psalms & Sacred Songs found in his Let Us Go Rejoicing series, as well
as a musical play in two acts called The Word: A Gospel Opera,
and the Mass of St. Vincent DePaul. All music is fully notated, scored, and recorded.
Bill can customize retreats based on themes, sacraments, ages, schedules, and more. He offers retreats for the sacraments of Reconciliation, Communion and Confirmation as well as for 8th Grade, High School, and even Parish Missions.

Bill’s standard approach to retreat content is to utilize hands on participation of the retreatants. Songs with motions, games, sign language, small group activities, question and answer sessions, and more.

Some frequently used activities are: Outburst, mini-praise and worship concerts
with hand motions (“Lean on Me,” “Trading My Sorrows,” “Lord I Lift Your Name on
High,”), Gifts of the Holy Spirit exercise, Uganda Ministry presentation,
Bill’s personal Faith Witness talk, Yarn Web activity, Beatitudes in Sign
Language, and more.
Bill is also open to brainstorming more ideas to customize the retreat experience as desired.
