What Blessed and Happy is about...
This presentation is a wonderful alternative to introduce children and young adults to the concept of the Beatitudes in a very hands-on way. We’ve taken “Blessed and Happy,” a song from Bill Monaghan’s original musical, The Word: A Gospel Opera, and put together a package that will capture the attention of students from every age group. We will instruct our learners how to sign the eight teachings of Jesus found in the Gospel of Matthew (5:3-10) in basic American Sign Language along with teaching the song, both words and melody.
Benefits
• Accessibility. No advanced scheduling or moving from place to place. All instructions and video are included in the basic package that you can keep in your classroom for when you are ready to use them. Just add a TV, DVD, and students.
• Flexibility. The lessons can be used in many disciplines (e.g., religion and music classes). Directors of Religious Education and Youth Ministers will find this helpful for CCD classes, retreats for Confirmation, Communion, Penance, and much more. Blessed and Happy can also be used as a peer ministry tool, for prayer services, and for school performances. It is adaptable enough to use with large groups as well as individual students. The uses are limited only by your imagination.
• User-friendly. No experience necessary to use Blessed and Happy. It’s up to you to choose whether to learn along with the students or prepare ahead of time. • An instructional poster (for photocopying) with photos of the signs, explanations of the Beatitudes, suggested curriculum and more
• CD with song in two forms: Soundtrack version with vocal and Karaoke version so you can sing along
• DVD instructional video with cast member, Shannon McMullen, singing and signing* the song, “Blessed and Happy.” Step-by-step sign language for each Beatitude plus the full cast performance from the film, The Word: A Gospel Opera.
• Our deluxe package offers guitar and piano accompaniment for those who wish to take this experience further as a live musical performance.
